Autographed Letter
$749.00 - Product is currently out of stock.
Alexander Haig (December 2, 1924-February 20, 2010), 59th United States Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan, authentic, autographed typed letter (TLS). The letter is typed on official Secretary of State stationary and addressed to Congressman Bill Young.
The letter is dated March 30, 1981, the same day as the assassination attempt on President Reagan by John Hinckley, Jr. Following the attempt, Haig controversially stated that he was "in control here" while Vice President George H. W. Bush returned to Washington, even though no formal invocation of presidential succession took place.
The letter reads: "It's always nice to win one! Even by an eight-to-seven vote total, it is good when they come out right. Your intelligence, as usual, was right on the mark. I look forward to our continuing to work together..."
Signed in black ink pen. Light surface wrinkling, otherwise fine condition.
